About me

Hello!

I’m Lucy Sweet and I’m a writer. My first writing job, aged 19, was as a gig reviewer for Melody Maker, and I used to file by FAX. Since then, I’ve learned how to use email and I’ve written funny columns, lifestyle features, TV reviews and lists for the Sunday Express, Sunday Times, Daily Record, The Guardian, GLAMOUR, Mirror Online, The Pool, The Mail on Sunday and the Big Issue.

There have been highs and lows during the last 25 years. I’ve wallowed in infinity pools and trawled neighbourhoods for hipster bars for the Louis Vuitton Travel Guides, Lusso magazine and Condé Nast Traveller – and I’ve reviewed The Krankies.

In my capacity as a copywriter, I’ve worked since 2009 for clients including SSE, Clydesdale Bank, M&S, Aimia and Arnold Clark. I know how to write SEO content without stuffing it with keywords, I’m capable of exciting UX copy and I can come up with a great line for a billboard.

So, have a look around, read my writing and if you’d like to work with me, just send me a fax! I mean, an email.

Candis

Since 2016 I’ve written a monthly lifestyle column for subscription-only women’s magazine Candis. Candis is one of the UK’s top selling magazines, with a readership of 100,000, and a percentage of the profits are donated to health charities.

The Pool

The Pool

Sadly no more, Lauren Laverne and Sam Baker’s site The Pool was a great space for women on the internet, and I managed to write for it for a couple of years.

From articles about my inner critic to how I lie to My Fitness Pal about how many doughnuts I’ve eaten, it was a real journey.

Big Issue: TV reviews

big issue

Every three weeks you’ll see my mug at the top of the Broadcast column in the Reviews section of the Big Issue. I cast my critical eye over everything from the Bake Off to Killing Eve, talk a lot about Corrie and bang on about how telly was much better when the whole family gathered round it to have arguments, instead of watching Netflix on their phones.

Read about…Penguins

Enjoy my roast of Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen

And let’s all sit down to watch the Bake Off…

Or just read ’em all..

I’m the co-author of very funny little book called WTF Knits, which is a compilation of strange knitting projects curated by Gabrielle Grillo on her Fucked Up Knitting Tumblr. I wrote the captions and made it into a tapestry of LOLZ…You can get yourself a copy here.

Sabotage Times

star-and-heat-magazine

When my kid was little I started blogging for Sabotage Times as a way to release frustration. It ended up with me getting in all kinds of bother with a variety of people and companies, including Innocent smoothies and James Corden.
